The McDowell Hospitals Community Outreach Department takes a leadership role in providing life enhancing and health education opportunities for our citizens.
Our Joint Commission accredited (Score of 100) Home Care Agency provides client assistance in the areas of personal care, activities of daily living and/or management of household routine. Nurse aides, under the direction of a registered nurse, provide these services to a target population of individuals with health related conditions.
Caregiver Support Service is also offered as short term respite visits, allowing caregivers time out of the home while the loved one is cared for by a nurse aide.
Smart Start services to new mothers include First Steps home visits by a registered nurse to check on how the mother and baby are doing and provide breastfeeding assistance. The Healthy Start intensive home visitation program for first time mothers begins at birth and continues for three years.
The hospitals community health education effort includes health screenings and fairs on site or in conjunction with community events. Outreach staff provides assistance with planning and implementation of events for industries, churches and civic groups.
